Otter surveys tend to be carried out when proposed works are likely to impact on watercourses and associated areas which may be used by otters.

 

The area of survey extends beyond the proposed activity both upstream and downstream. Any signs of otter, such as spraints, couches and slides are mapped. Potential impacts on otters are assessed.
